So who writes a review after reading the 7th book? But then, who reads a review OF the 7th book? It was this first of the series that hooked me. And let me say that I'm not the right demographic....too old and no RPG experience....turned based strategy (Civ 5)...and I still really liked the book....now books. The writing is good, the character development is great, and a whole world has been created.....who can do that. There is enough building Richter's game and skill levels that the action is constant. And there is enough building of his locale that I can choose to think of this as a strategy game. But mostly I walk around now wondering why I'm not getting prompts saying "you've discovered...."Product details

So my best friend told me about this genre called LitRPG. As a huge fan of the fantasy sci fi and role playing games all my life I didn't think it was possible to merge game and literature into a genre. I made the huge mistake of clicking one advertisement on Facebook due to reading audible books by Nick Podehl and this book intrigued me because I love Nick Podehl and my friend told me that he had become a huge fan of LitRPG. I had money burning in my wallet and picked up the entire series on so I could get a discount for the Audible versions. I listened to the first book on a Sunday and by Saturday of that same week I was half way into book seven (which is a spectacular 40+hr book!). I am so mad that I'm addicted to this series and seriously contemplated starting it all over again just because it was so good but..... Instead I made another mistake and went to the fan page and read up on other LitRPG books that was as good as Aleron's The Land Chaos Seed series and sure enough I'm hooked on Dakota Krout completionist series! Now that I'm about to wrap up this other series I fully intend to listen to the entire Chaos Seed all over again. The first book is a great intro to the world the characters and the genre in general. Listening to the level up prompts on audible is surprisingly such awesome thing for me. I enjoy it so much. I cannot emphasize enough how much fun I have listening to this book and this series in general. I think the Author has written a love letter to people like me through this book and series simply because of the multiple real world generation X geek, street, and pop culture references in the dialog. Before the days that geeks have become chic I was the nerd with cool tendencies and I feel like this is exactly what Aleron Kong is. I'm working my way to become a full fledged member of the Mist Village Mafia. For the person reading this review. Take the plunge and join in. This has become more of a movent and the Father of American LitRPG Aleron Kong is a strong leader.

I just finished reading Aleron Kong's The Land Founding. It is the first in the Chaos Seed series. Also, my first litRPG novel. I have to say that at first it was difficult for me to read. The style is something I am not used to. The continual "updates" and levelling info was distracting. However, the parts between these interludes were very well written and kept me tied tightly to the story. My long lost days of playing D&D with my friends came back to me with every turn of the page.
The very beginning seemed a little out of place, though. I can see the "Chaos Seed" prelude and it sets the stage quite nicely for the story to take place. I suppose the brief introduction of the group playing the game was meant to introduce the main character, but that part did not fit so well since the chracter of Richter is nothing like the rogue in the prelude. From that point onward though, the story was develop very well and was well told. I think that I would have thoroughly enjoyed a game where Aleron presided as Dungeon Master!
If you enjoy fantasy novels, if you have every played D&D or another RPG, you must add this book to your library
Dr. Kong does an incredible job of grabbing the reader and flying into a new land. The character development is incredible, the attention to detail is amazing, and the humor is wonderful. Readers will find themselves smiling, frowning, laughing, and worrying…completely forgetting that they are reading a book.
Spoiler as good as this book is (and it is an easy 10/10; the next 5 just get better!)
An very inventive fantasy series that is well written to the point of intoxication! If you live fantasy and you live fantasy rpg then you will absolutely love the clever way Aleron has created a story with a creative premise about a place called The Land that is bound with myth, magic, heroes, monsters and best of all leveling up and finding loot! It’s like reading a game story and yet it is more. The story And characters are well developed and constantly leave you wanting to find out what’s going to happen next. I read a lot of fantasy and sci-fi and I’ve not been this excited about a series since The Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson.

There is no way to prevent Land Cake addiction as even the mildest of exposures will result in a primal need for more. Should you find yourself immune to the allure of Land Cake immediately reevaluate your priorities because you're a terrible person
